Some rules may vary by venue, time constraints, or number of teams. Detailed rules will always be emailed to the team captain before a tournament or start of a league season

Indoor Format

COED 6'S

  • Open Hand Passing – Permitted indoors on serves or free balls​

  • Blocking – Blocks do not count as a touch​

  • Serving – Let serves are allowed​

    • Only one serving attempt is allowed

    • No jump serves in recreation divisions

  • Net - Touching any part of the net with any part of your body is a fault and will result in a side out

  • Middle Line - You are not permitted to cross the center line entirely. You may touch the line, but never entirely step across it

  • Attacks - Any front row player is permitted to block or attack the ball

  • Subs - Any additional subs (more than 7 players) will need to pay a $25 fee. Standard subbing rules apply throughout the league or tournament

  • Reffing - Reffing team must keep score on sheets provided, will be in charge of watching the net, sets,  of bounds lines. An up & down ref plus 2 line judges is expected

  • Timeouts – only 1 timeout permitted per game

  • Waivers – each team member must sign the waiver prior to playing their first game

  • Captains must review the score & initial after every match to ensure it is correct, playoffs and seeding will based on the scores recorded

  • Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Any unsportsmanlike conduct as determined by the league directors can result in forfeit of points/match or removal from the league entirely. Please be respectful of one another, we’re all here to compete and have fun!

Indoor Format

WOMEN'S OR MEN'S 6'S

  • Open Hand Passing – Permitted Indoors on serves or free balls​

  • Libero - Any team with a libero will abide by standard rules. Libero may only serve for 1 person. Libero may never attack the ball above the plain on the net

  • Subs - Any additional subs (more than 7 players) will need to pay a $25 fee. Standard subbing rules apply throughout the league or tournament

  • Reffing - Reffing team must keep score on sheets provided, will be in charge of watching the net, sets,  of bounds lines. An up & down ref plus 2 line judges is expected

Indoor Format

REVERSE COED 6'S

  • 3 male/3 female players on the court at all times

    • Must line up in guy/girl alternating format

  • Attacks - Women may attack from anywhere on the court & men may only attack from behind the 10ft Line

    • If men attack the ball in front of the 10ft line it MUST have obvious upward trajectory

    • When there is only 1 female player front row (middle front), after the ball is served another female player can move forward to block at the net. They are not permitted to hit front row

    • When there is only 1 male player front row (middle front), that player is not permitted to attack behind the 10ft line. **This means every male player has 1 rotation where they may not act as an attacker from behind the 10ft line**

  • Open Hand Passing –Permitted on serves or free balls

    • Allowed on hard driven attacks - can be “sloppy”

  • Open Hand Tips – Permitted

  • Blocking – Blocks do not count as a touch

    • ONLY WOMEN are allowed to block/attempt to block 

  • Serving – Let serves are allowed

    • Servers must maintain rotation

    • Only one serving attempt is allowed

    • No jump serves in B division

  • Net - Touching any part of the net with any part of your body is a fault and will result in a side out

  • Middle Line - You are NOT permitted to cross the middle line entirely (shadow rule)

  • Subs - Any additional subs (more than 6 players) will need to pay a $25 fee. Standard subbing rules apply throughout the league or tournament

  • Reffing - Reffing team must keep score on sheets provided, will be in charge of watching the net, sets, and 10ft line attacks (men can land in front of the 10ft line but must take off with both feet from behind the line)

    • ONLY WOMEN are allowed to block/attempt to block

  • Serving – Let serves are allowed

    • Servers must alternate in the same order even though there is no “rotation”

    • Only one serving attempt is allowed

    • No jump serves in recreation divisions

  • Net - Touching any part of the net with any part of your body is a fault and will result in a side out

  • Middle Line - You are permitted to cross underneath the net as long as you are not interfering with the other team. Interference will result in a side out. Please be careful with this

  • Subs – not permitted. Should either player on your team need no longer be able to play for any reason, you must forfeit the game & accept your seeding based on the games completed

  • Captains must review the score & initial after every match to ensure it is correct, playoffs and seeding will based on the scores recorded
